Welcome

This is a single‑file retro testbed: DHTML tricks, starfield, Matrix rain, cursor trails, snow, a guestbook, a fake hit counter, a draggable window, and more. Upload anywhere and it just works.

Hackpen / JokerJonny — Old‑School Cowboy Bio

Since 1996 we built the web the cowboy way — mixing scripts, breaking limits, and duct‑taping magic together until it worked. We shipped at 2 a.m. over dial‑up, then prayed IE4 and Netscape 4 wouldn’t explode on load.

GENNOW — Generation Now was the banner: build what’s next, not what’s allowed.

Greatest Hits of the Era:

  • DHTML stunts (layers, rollovers, typewriter text, floating windows).
  • FrontPage 97/98/2000 & Dreamweaver 1–2 — WYSIWYG meets hand‑coded rescue missions.
  • Flash 2 intros, Shockwave embeds, and the infamous “Skip Intro” button.
  • <table> layouts, spacer GIFs, image slicing, and bevel button sprites.
  • Inline frames, framesets, and frame‑busting JavaScript when things went feral.
  • CGI formmail.pl on Perl, early PHP3 mailers, classic ASP + SSI includes.
  • Guestbooks, hit counters, webrings, and GeoCities/Angelfire deployments.
  • Browser‑sniffing for IE4 vs NS4, CSS hacks, PNG alpha “gotchas”.
  • Background MIDIs, comet cursors, blinking banners, marquee scrollers.
  • FTP at midnight, rollback by hand, and README.txt as our CI/CD.

This page is a salute to that era — rebuilt clean so the nostalgia slaps, but the code doesn’t.

Retro Window×

Drag me by the title bar. Beeps on open. This mimics the classic DHTML layer window.
